What to check before you hire a web developer

Whether you hire a web developer through me or someone else, a few questions will save you time and money. These are the same questions I would ask if I were in your position.

Ask for results, not just designs

A portfolio of beautiful screenshots tells you very little. Ask what changed for the business: more enquiries, more bookings, more sales. Good developers can show case studies with numbers.

Check who does the work

Find out who you will actually work with, who writes the copy and who handles changes after launch. When you hire a web developer directly, you avoid the hand-offs that slow projects down.

Get a fixed scope and price

Hourly estimates invite surprises. Ask for a clear scope, a fixed price and a timeline with milestones. Also ask who owns the code, the domain and the hosting account. The answer should always be you.

Look at speed and SEO from day one

Most conversion websites are between $2,500 and $6,000. Custom apps start around $6,000. You get a fixed quote after the review, never an hourly surprise.
